Will I get to choose my training partner animal?

We will match you with one of the animals we have on the ranch, depending on your experience level, training goals, and our animals. We find that most people learn best when they work with animal species that they haven’t trained previously.

WILL I EARN CEU credits?

Students who take The Ranch Experience course are eligible for:

  • 21 CEU credits from CCPDT for Certified Trainers (CPDT-KA)
  • 5 CEU credits from CCPDT for Certified Behavioral Consultants (CBCC)
  • 25 CEU credits from IAABC
  • 25 CEU credits from Karen Pryor Academy

Students will receive information on the application process at the conclusion of the course.

Can I bring my dog?

We strongly recommend that you do not bring your dog (with the exception of a personal service dog). You will not have much free time to tend to your dog, and there is no course time dedicated to training your dog. If you must bring your dog, your dog must be well-socialized and comfortable around people and other dogs.

You must bring a kennel to house your dog while in class. Your dog will not be in the classroom with you; the kennel will not fit in the classroom. You will have to find the time to tend to your dog during the brief breaks in class. Classroom and training sessions will start promptly and we will not be able to wait for those who need to tend to their dogs. If you bring a dog, you will also need to provide your own transportation to and from The Ranch.

What should I bring and wear?

The ranch can be muddy. You should bring boots that are waterproof and that can get dirty and muddy during training sessions. Please also bring indoor shoes to wear during classroom time. Wear jeans or clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. The ranch can experience rain showers at unexpected times, so please bring rain gear and layers of clothing to deal with the cold weather.

Will there be food?

Students will be expected to have breakfast prior to arriving at the ranch; breakfast is included in the hotel rate at the recommended hotels. Lunches will be provided all five days of the experience. Dinner will be provided Monday through Thursday. Coffee, tea, water, and selected soft drinks will be available all day. Please inform us of any special dietary needs during registration.
