BENEFITS OF CONSENT BEHAVIORS
There are many benefits to teaching an animal to indicate consent for participation in medical behaviors. By teaching the animal to choose if they are ready to continue, or just as important that they are not, you gain a better relationship with your animal. This makes training more fun and enjoyable and it also builds a strong foundation for doing whatever activity you want to accomplish.
In this video, Ken Ramirez demonstrates some of the consent behaviors he teaches his animals, including standing still, a chin rest, or presenting a paw.
