Teaching Elephants to Protect Themselves From Poachers
EPISODE 48: November 4, 2021
Is it possible to train elephants to protect themselves from poachers? Four years into an extensive conservation project, and the results are promising.
In this episode, Ken Ramirez shares an inside look at the elephant conservation project he has been leading in Africa. Through remote training, Ken and his team of more than 150 people have been working to change the migration route of a large herd of elephants so that they never enter poacher territory. Hear first-hand the planning, protocols, approximations, challenges, and triumphs the team has made to change a centuries-old migration route and conserve a once dwindling elephant population.
