WHY TRAINING OTHER SPECIES CAN MAKE YOU A BETTER DOG TRAINER
Even experienced dog trainers have lessons they can learn by working with other species. Although there is the universality of training theory, training other animals allows the trainer to approach training with fresh eyes without the preconceived notions about the way dogs learn — it is far easier to approach training from a fresh perspective when you are working with a species you have little to no familiarity with. In many ways, it helps connect the dots on concepts that trainers don't often see as related.
At the Ranch, we have three very different species, so the opportunity to see two or three different learning styles challenges even the most experienced trainers in a positive and pressure-free setting.
