Trick Training: Take the Fun Road to Better Training
July 23 - 24, 2022
Join Michele Pouliot and Ken Ramirez as they raise the bar on the training of behaviors that might often be thought of as mere amusing tricks. The trick behaviors that will be explored provide a fantastic opportunity for improving our training–from sharpening behavior observation, improving environmental set-up to honing a range of positive training skills that include shaping, luring, and strategic treat placement.
Come learn while having amazing fun, all in one weekend at The Ranch!
ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
Michele Pouliot and Ken Ramirez will combine their expert training, teaching, and presentation skills to provide an immersive, hands-on Guest at The Ranch two-day workshop this July.
Michele will take the lead with several dog-and-handler teams, teaching behaviors like bowing, backing up, and passing between the handler’s legs. The more advanced teams behaviors will learn skills such as leg cross, chin rest on a body part, or passing through a hoop.
Ken will lead the design, set-up, and training of similar behaviors with one or more of the animals at The Ranch which include mini donkeys, goats, alpacas, and more! Workshop attendees will help throughout the entire process.
Join Ken and Michele for this special Guest at the Ranch weekend workshop. If you like to have fun while learning, it’s just the trick!

Dog/Handler Team Requirements
Dogs will have long days at The Ranch workshops. They will need to be able to focus and work confidently for food in close quarters around other working teams. There will also be a lot of downtime, and dogs will need to be comfortable waiting patiently in the car between working sessions.
Teams should have a good understanding of the use of the clicker and reinforcement. They should be experienced clicker trainers, not beginners. We will work with each dog at its skill level, so no specific requirements for needed behaviors, other than experience with clicker training.
